Delete your account

You can ask us to permanently delete your AriyoEvents account and personal data at any time. This page explains exactly what happens, what we have to keep, and how to request it.

This right is guaranteed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. There's no fee. We respond within 7 days.

How to request deletion

Email privacy@ariyoevents.com from the email address attached to your AriyoEvents account, with the subject line “Delete my account”.

That's the only step you need to take. We confirm receipt within 24 hours and complete deletion within 7 days.

We deliberately use email rather than a one-tap web button to confirm the request really came from you. A web-only flow makes it too easy for anyone with brief access to your phone or laptop to wipe your account permanently.

What gets deleted

  • Your account record (name, email, phone, password hash)
  • Your profile photo and biographical fields
  • Your sign-in identities — Google / Facebook / Apple links you created
  • Your saved passes for events you registered to attend
  • Posts, photos, comments, and reactions you made in event communities
  • Your vendor profile, services, and portfolio (if you're a vendor)
  • Notification preferences and history
  • Login session tokens (every device you're signed into is logged out)

What we have to keep (and why)

By Nigerian law and standard financial practice, a small set of records survives deletion. None of these can be linked back to you in a meaningful way after deletion:

  • Payment records — kept for 7 years per Nigerian financial-records regulation. Personally-identifying fields (name, email, phone) are scrubbed; only the transaction metadata (amount, reference, date, status) remains.
  • Anonymised registration countsfor events you attended — the host's historical “100 guests checked in” number doesn't change just because one of them deleted their account later. Your specific check-in record is removed; only the count survives.
  • Audit log entries — if our admin team ever took an action involving your account (e.g. a moderation decision), the audit row stays for forensic integrity, but your name is replaced with a generic placeholder.

Everything else — and we mean everything — is gone within 7 days of your request.

If you have an active event

If you're hosting an event with paid registrations that haven't happened yet, we ask you to either:

  • Cancel the event first and refund attendees (we can help process the refunds — see Refund Policy), or
  • Hand the event off to another host — write to privacy@ariyoevents.com and we'll arrange the transfer.

We won't honour a deletion request that would strand people who have paid for tickets to an upcoming event you haven't cancelled. This protects your guests, not us.

Changed your mind?

Within the 7-day window between your request and the actual deletion, you can email us to cancel and we'll restore the account immediately. After deletion completes, the account cannot be restored — you'd need to sign up fresh.
